Chief Technology Officer

Steve Hoye CFA, MBA

With 38 years in the Oil & Gas industry, Mr. Hoye has served in multiple roles, starting with a 22 year career at Texaco, where he started as a geophysicist, gradually moving into a special projects team where he developed some cutting-edge technologies, including the use of genetic programming and neural network programs for synthesizing sonic logs from other common log suites that could be used to calibrate 3D seismic attributes with well control points.  Mr. Hoye also developed Texaco’s first application doing inversion for velocity structure of seismic profiles using computer-aided-tomography.  He then moved into risk analysis consulting and analytics, traveling around the world for Decisioneering (and later, Oracle) whose product Crystal Ball, was a fixture for performing Monte Carlo simulation, time series forecasting, and optimization.

Mr. Hoye has since branched into Business Intelligence and analytics, programming R modules that drove Blue River Analytics first Energy Analytics Workflow® software product.  Mr. Hoye received his Bachelor of Science in Geophysics from Purdue University in 1980, MBA from University of Denver in 1996, and the designation Chartered Financial Analyst from CFA Society in 2006.

John Guthrie

Mr. Guthrie is an IT professional with 35+ years applications experience in Oil & Gas and 20+ years using Business Intelligence tools in the Energy and Utilities sectors.

A highly experienced data analyst in Oil & Gas with many years of experience using TIBCO Spotfire, building dashboards, analytic tools and workflows for Global Exploration and Production Operators across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).  Mr. Guthrie’s assignments have assisted engineers and management across all E&P disciplines to use Spotfire for self-service service data discovery, making sense of their data and using their analysis for collaboration and evidence-based decision making.

Spotfire E&P project delivery experience includes: BP, Statoil (Equinor), Dana Petroleum, Conocophillips UK, Maersk Oil, KOC, PDO, SASOL, Saudi Aramco, OMV, Repsol.

In his last 2 TIBCO Spotfire assignments, Mr. Guthrie has received letters of commendation from the DCEO of the Kuwait Oil Company for his analytics work in the Production Optimization Task Force and Strategic Planning and from Conocophillips UK for his Cost Visualization Analytics in the Cost Management Project which delivered a step change in the control and oversight of spending and commitments across all areas.

TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Advisor

Steve Piper

Mr. Piper is a highly experienced IT professional and Data Analyst with extensive experience in Business Intelligence, Data Visualization and Analytics, including 6 years experience with the TIBCO Spotfire Analytics platform, primarily in the Oil & Gas sector.

Mr. Piper’s recent Spotfire E&P project delivery experience includes building Spotfire dashboards and analytical tools and helping engineers and managers use Spotfire for self service data discovery and analysis for clients including Chrysaor, Tullow Oil, Petoro, BG, Total, Maersk Oil & Dana Petroleum.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

John Buckley

Mr. Buckley is a seasoned technology executive boasting three decades of experience. He excels in crafting strategies that drive business transformation and growth. His leadership philosophy emphasizes adaptability, innovation, and a deep understanding of the oil & gas sector’s evolving needs.

Before launching Blue River Analytics, Mr. Buckley was a Senior Sales Executive at TIBCO Spotfire, where he focused on customizing data visualization solutions for the energy industry. His professional journey also includes key roles at established companies such as QlikTech, SAP, Oracle, Stellent, PeopleSoft, and JD Edwards.

He holds an MBA in Operations Management from Regis University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, specializing in Information Systems, from the University of Colorado, Denver.

As the driving force behind Blue River Analytics, Mr. Buckley not only oversees daily operations but also leads as Chairman of the Board, ensuring the company’s commitment to delivering unparalleled value to its clients.

TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Advisor

Jason Joslin

Mr. Joslin has spent the last 13 years in the oil & gas industry working in the areas of modeling and analytics. Working with everything from subsurface to surface to export data, historic to real-time to future planning data; he has seen the value of integration and the power of analytics in Spotfire.

Mr. Joslin graduated from the University of Bath with a Bachelors in Mathematics. Following which he worked at BP in London where he started using Spotfire to analyze vast quantities of modeling output data. Later, as a consultant to Kuwait’s national oil company (KOC), Mr. Joslin used it again in full force to find powerful insights into all areas of KOC’s business enhancing production and reducing costs.

Mr. Joslin is a keen traveller and lover of the outdoors. His trips include hiking up Japan’s second highest mountain Kita Dake, ice climbing in the Fournel valley of France, off-roading in the Moroccan desert and rock climbing in the canyons of Oman.

Reservoir Engineer | TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Advisor

Stanley Little

With over 25 years of experience in oil & gas, Mr. Little has provided advice on fast track solutions to field development challenges from unconventional resources to deep water reservoirs. He gained his experience working for major oil companies and large independents including Shell, Total, Pioneer Natural Resources, Apache Corp, and Marathon Oil. 

While working in the industry, Mr. Little has performed technical due diligence and recommendations in the area of acquisitions, exploration and new ventures as part of multidisciplinary technical teams on five continents in over 30 countries across the globe. Mr. Little has a proven track record as Reservoir Engineer including field operations, production forecasting, reserve estimation, reservoir simulation, risk analysis, development planning, economic evaluations.

As a subject matter expert (SME), Mr. Little has extensive experience in all facets of TIBCO Spotfire including visual design and experience with most oil and gas back end data repositories.

Mr. Little holds a MSc. in Petroleum Engineering and a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French, Italian and Portuguese.

IT & Systems Analyst

Bryan Bussie

Mr. Bussie entered the technology landscape in 2002 as an Electronic Missile Systems Technician in the US Army. After 8 years of service to our country working on military hardware, optics, and ordinance he went to Colorado State University, Fort Collins, where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. In 2014, Mr. Bussie continued his career with information technology working primarily as a systems, network, and security engineer. He began consulting with Blue River Analytics in 2018. Since then he has built our hybrid cloud network, managed Blue River’s IT infrastructure, implemented dozens of Spotfire solutions for our customers, and built custom IT infrastructure for clients seeking a dynamic approach to the emergence of cloud platforms.
